Services Available Through the EGI Electronics Lab

EGI can offer considerable capability to conceive, design, fabricate, deploy, and maintain custom electronic equipment. In particular, EGI and its consulting associates are well versed in the design and fabrication of hybrid digital and analog systems to address precision control or data acquisition applications. These systems usually involve integration of one or more embedded programmable microprocessor(s) and other custom logic, appropriate sensor interfaces with analog signal conditioning and data conversion (A/D or D/A) hardware, and custom software for system control and data processing. We are well versed in low-noise hybrid system design, as well as with implementation of custom software for embedded control. Our design expertise includes use of the latest technologies, including Programmable Gate Array hardware to implement complex custom logic designs.

We can design and build stand-alone systems, provide standard interfaces from a custom system to external computers, or provide distributed, networked system solutions for data acquisition or control, and including wireless networked systems. We have experience developing systems for real-time, and near real-time operations.

In addition to addressing the laboratory environment, we have designed equipment for battery-powered operations with solar augmentation, and for operation in harsh environments. We have deployed custom equipment successfully in land- and air-based vehicular applications, and outdoors in harsh environments ranging from the US Southwestern desert to Antarctica.

The following outline summarizes capabilities available through the EGI Electronics Lab that have been developed in support of past and current projects, and that may be useful in setting up collaborations with other organizations. The outline gives an indication of the expertise that we could provide to develop, deploy, and maintain custom instrumentation for collaborative research projects.
